E-Mentoring

BMC’s Women Mentoring Women program is piloting an exciting new program to give immigrant women the opportunity to connect with a professional in their field. Based on recommendations from a region-wide study (please insert link to Needs Assessment Report) and conference BMC is offering an E-mentoring initiative for immigrant women in Peel Region.

Studies have shown that E-mentoring is equally beneficial to traditional (face-to-face) mentoring and is more popular for the following reasons:

  • Increased flexibility
  • Greater access for users (i.e. immigrant women, women in the workforce)
  • Cost effective (childcare & transportation costs)
  • Equalization of status
  • Decreased emphasis on demographics (race, age, ethnicity, ability, religion, etc.)
  • Enhances participants’ confidence building, and support for risk-taking Improves employees’

 

E-mentoring Guidelines

This program requires participants to keep in touch via e-mail at least once a week and attend at least one face-to-face session. Immigrant women are supported by professional women who offer them tips on job search, education & training, professional development, etc. via e-mail, online chatting, telephone, and in person.

Mentees if you are:

  • An immigrant woman between 25-55 years old
  • A resident of Brampton, Mississauga or Caledon
  • Looking for a job and/or currently working
  • Ready to connect with skilled, experienced professionals

 

Mentors if you are:

  • Passionate about empowering women
  • Open to sharing your experience and expertise
  • Living or working in Peel
  • Ready to expand and enhance your leadership skills
